When Was The First Gay Porn Produced?

Even though there is proof that gay sex was something that occurred in ancient civilizations, because of the fact that it is usually taboo subject, gay porn did not become popular until modern history. 

If you want to be technical about it, there are paintings and etchings from as far back as ancient Greek and Roman times that have depicted gay sex.

For a very long time, all types of depictions of gay sex were deemed illegal in America under sodomy laws that existed in many jurisdictions. However, these laws were overruled by the Supreme Court in 2003.

Hardcore gay porno started to be legally produced in the United States in the 1970s, but there is evidence of such film in Europe being created from as far back as the early 1900s.

The first film to depict hardcore gay sex was the French film Le Menage Moderne Du Madame Butterfly, which was produced and released in 1920. 

In America, most claim that the first gay sex movie that was released was A Free Ride, which was released five years before that. However, the first American movie to feature hardcore gay sex was 1929′s The Surprise of a Knight.

But even when the depiction of gay sex was illegal, there was a huge underground scene and it has always been available through various underground channels. 

A lot of the earliest gay pornography simply depicted muscular men in sensual poses and usually wearing nothing but a G-string. These types of images were very popular and prominent in the 1940s and 1950s in America.

These magazines that featured these usually young and hairless, muscular men wearing very little clothes were usually passed off at the time as fitness magazine, but they could easily be equated to homosexual pornography.

The period during which gay pornography blossomed in America and elsewhere was during the so-called Sexual Revolution of the 1960s. This was a time during which there were many new Supreme Court rulings that liberalized the legalized environment of the society that allowed pornography to be sold commercially. 

The production of gay porno expended in the 1970s and there were more and more studios that were releasing films that catered to a gay audience and featured gay sex. 

There were also a large number of theaters that opened up at the time that catered to these films, and these were places where gay men could go to experience sexual encounters with other gay mean while watching these erotic videos and movies. 

Since then, gay pornography has increased in popularity and there are various subgenres of that to. There are genres that cater to fetishes and also to body types and just about everything else. 

The gay porno industry is now just as diverse as the heterosexual industry and it has a strong following and lots of support from many studios that see a lot of money from creating specifically gay porno films.
